How to achieve a vintage style with a twist (or a plait)

Start with day old hair if you can otheriwse clean hair spritzed with Bumble and Bumbles surf spray to give hair texture.

Brush hair into side or middle parting then divide into sections from parting down to ear on either side so you should have 2 small sections on either side and the rest will be a larger section at the back.

Secure the sides to keep them out of the way and ignore them for now.

Use a light hairspray or ‘sea salt’ spray to mattify the hair. Then gently backcomb the ends not the roots. Holding the hair and gently brushing it up towards the roots.

You should end up with a large messy knot at the back of your head about the width of your hair with flat roots and bunchies at the sides, not a good look now but it will be trust me it will be….

Next is to roll the hair from the ends until it sits at the nape of your neck against the head.

Then take 4 hair pins and slide them in horizontally between the bun and the head so its secure.

You should now have a oval shaped neat roll of hair at the nape.

Next take the sides and either twist them and tuck them in the sides of the bun securing with a Kirby grip or plait them and do the same making sure the ends are hidden in the bun.

Can use fine pins to tuck in any lose ends or go for that messy sexy vintage look

This would look great with flowers or a vintage style broach for a wedding or just as it is for a night out.
